Paul Wintz

I am originally from Hartington, Nebraska and am the oldest son of Jim and Carla Wintz. I grew up right next door to the funeral home and so the funeral business has always been a part of my life. I was able to see the value and importance of our business and how much my dad and my uncle, Jerry helped people during such a difficult time. I wanted to do the same thing for people and that's why I decided to become a funeral director.

After graduating from Cedar Catholic High School, I went off to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for three years. I attended Mortuary School at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mortuary Science in the spring of 2001. I then served my apprenticeship at Heafey, Heafey, Hoffmann, Dworak, and Cutler Funeral Home in Omaha.

In August 2002, I married Holly Schroeder and moved to Yankton.  We have 4 beautiful children: Isabelle, Madeline, Olivia and Gabe. We love living in Yankton and enjoy being active members of the community. We belong to St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Catholic United Financial, Knights of Columbus and Hillcrest Country Club. I am also involved in the Yankton Morning Optimist Club, Avera Sacred Heart Foundation Board, and Heartland Psychological Board and serve as an Ambassador for the Yankton Chamber of Commerce.

I am the third son of Jim and Carla Wintz and since the third grade, I knew I wanted to become a funeral director.  I knew that this is what our family does and I wanted to make sure our family would always be around to help people when they need it most

I grew up in Hartington, Nebraska next door to the funeral home and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School. I then attended Wayne State College and then graduated with a Degree in Mortuary Science from Kansas City Kansas Community College.  I married my high school sweetheart, Katie Griess, on August 4, 2001. After graduating from mortuary school in 2002 we moved to Omaha, Nebraska where I served my apprenticeship at Heafey, Heafey, Hoffman, Dworak and Cutler Funeral Home.

In 2004, we moved to Yankton and have loved living and raising our children in Yankton. We have three children, Joshua, Brooklynn and Jackson.  Katie has worked in several places since moving to Yankton including Slowey Construction, RTEC, and Vision Real Estate. She has now moved into the funeral industry with her own business, Candles To Remember, Inc. She designs and manufactures keepsake candles from the flowers people send to families for their funeral.

We are members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic United Financial.  As a family we enjoy volunteering at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and at the Sacred Heart Bazaar.  I have also served as a member of Sacred Heart Parish Council, Sacred Heart School Advisory Council, Knights of Columbus, and the Yankton Sertoma Club. There are many important organizations in Yankton but the one I am most passionate about is Southeast CASA. I have served on the board and as the president of Southeast CASA, helping abused and neglected children in the Yankton area.
