Veronica J. "Ronnie" Calhoon

Veronica J. “Ronnie” Calhoon, age 87 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Thursday, October 04, 2018 at the Careage Campus of Care in Wayne, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel, Nebraska with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Coleridge. Visitation will be on Wednesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, at church, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel, Nebraska. Pallbearers will be Byron Kalin, Blair Kalin, Gary Flanders, Greg Lackas, Monte Lowe, Doran Burmood. Honorary pallbearers will be Veronica’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Veronica Joan “Ronnie” was born on December 18, 1930 in Coleridge, Nebraska to Edward and Abby (Hansen) Kalin. She grew up in Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School. She then went to the St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating in 1951, Veronica taught nurses training at the school prior to being married to Harry Glen Calhoon on November 11, 1953 in Coleridge. She worked for Dr. R.P. Carroll in Laurel for many years, then at the Laurel Medical Clinic for Dr. Nguyen Tien. Veronica finished her career as a nurse at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge. After retirement, Veronica taught CNA classes part-time at Northeast Technical College in Norfolk. Veronica enjoyed spending time with all her family. She loved to play cards and attend her grandchildren’s activities. Veronica is survived by her two sons, Mike & wife Patty Calhoon in Grand Island, NE, Marti Calhoon of Wayne, NE; five grandchildren Lindsay (Tyson) Davison of Lawrence, KS, Amanda Calhoon of Bastrop, TX, Katherine Calhoon of Omaha, Jessica (Tony) Garza of Omaha, Joshua (Kriss) Calhoon of Norfolk; six great grandchildren; brother-in-law Kearney Lackas of Belden, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on August 6, 2009 at the age of 83 years; daughter-in-law Louise Calhoon; two sisters Loretta “Tootie” Keating, Carol Lackas; and brother Clarence “Swede” Kalin.
