Tom Fitzgerald, age 71, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM, on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Inurnment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Thomas Eldon Fitzgerald was born August 14, 1947 in Yankton, South Dakota to James and Marie (Clary) Fitzgerald. He attended special education at Garfield School and spent the rest of his life in Yankton living a full life. Over the years, Tom worked for Modern Cleaners, Fantle’s, Vandermeer’s Bakery, Cotton Oil and Robinson-Ehret Motors. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. Tom was an active member of the Yankton Sertoma Club and recently received Sertoman of the Year. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, a 25 year members of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for bingo night. He enjoyed watching Yankton sports, Wheel of Fortune, and always kept up on the national and local news. Tom was a huge supporter of the Bucks and Gazelles, attending nearly every game. Tom also enjoyed bowling and played league for many years. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his two brothers: Jeff (Maryangela) Fitzgerald of Weston, FL and Matt Fitzgerald of Yankton; one sister, Jean Fitzgerald of Rancho Murieta, CA; four nieces and nephews: Brianna, Scarlett, Mike and Avery; and many friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
