Ted “Stub” Turgeon, age 93, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 4:00 PM on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 28, 2018 in Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, South Dakota. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Friday at the funeral home.
Theodore William Turgeon was born May 5, 1924 in Bijou Hills, South Dakota to Cesaire and Gertrude (Payne) Turgeon. He grew up on the family farm near Platte, South Dakota and farmed with his dad until enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. After the war he worked as a truck driver for a few years and later began working in construction. He lived in Ft. Thompson and Mitchell, South Dakota as well as Boulder, Colorado until settling in Yankton, South Dakota. Ted enjoyed dancing, working in his garden, and loved rebuilding his 1941 John Deere Tractor.
Survivors include his seven children: Ted (Jerry Kay) Turgeon of Omaha, Nebraska; Jane Ann (Craig) Hansen of Sioux City, Iowa; Mike (Susan) Turgeon of Rangely, Colorado; Becky (Andy) Sandoval of Firestone, Colorado; Mark (Shirley) Turgeon of Thornton, Colorado; Wendy (John) Turgeon of Carbondale, Colorado; and Lori Koeck of Ree Heights, South Dakota; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his brother, Barton Turgeon of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Phillip and Ben; and sister, Pearl.
