Shirley was born May 27, 1926 to Deward and Della (McQuinn) Erickson. She graduated from Hartington High School in Hartington and St.Vincent’s School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa. On December 30, 1948, Shirley married Gerald Stevens in Omaha, Nebraska. They were able to celebrate 68 years of marriage before Gerald’s death in 2017. Shirley’s greatest passion in life was her family, whether it was taking care of her parents, being with the McQuinn sisters, or hosting holidays and birthday parties. She loved family, camping at South Shore, spending time in her garden, and was immensely proud of her brother Bob. In addition to being an active member of the Holy Trinity Parish, Shirley belonged to The Catholic Daughters of America.
Shirley and Gerald had numerous friends in Hartington. They started a couples’ bridge club with Kip and Joan Burney, Clarence and Lenore Hoesing, and Darlene and Don Miller. They played bridge on Sunday nights for over 50 years and the bridge club became like one large family.
Shirley is survived by her children, Chris (Frank) Tudor of Yankton, South Dakota, Mary Stumbough of Mesa, Arizona, and Paul (Charlene) of Heartland, Wisconsin. She has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Erickson, and her husband, Gerald.
