Sheila Ann Sargent, age 54, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Pastor Steve Moerman officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, May 22, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Pallbearers are Wayne Sargent, Tyler Sargent, Larry Kramka, Ben Kramka, Kenny Meiers and Eric Gilson.
Sheila was born October 29, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lee Roy and Erma (Buseman) Stevens. When Sheila was 4 years old, the family moved to Yankton and later moved to Sioux Falls when she was in the fifth grade. Sheila graduated from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls in 1981. She then attended Bethel College in Minneapolis, MN, Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD and graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1989 with a degree in special education. She married Wade Sargent of March 15, 1986 in Sioux Falls. After college, Sheila started working for Scotland Elementary School in Scotland, SD and continued to teach special education there for her entire career until health issues forced her to retire in 2017. Sheila loved her students and loved teaching. She also enjoyed reading, camping, flowers, doing crafts and her dogs. Sheila was such a loving, caring, giving woman who had a heart of gold. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Wade Sargent of Yankton; parents, Roy and Erma Stevens of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Laurie (Larry) Kramka of Bemidji, MN and Micki Stevens and fiancé, Kenny Meiers of Harrisburg, SD; two uncles, Ervin Buseman and Eugene Buseman of Chancellor, SD; three aunts, Eileen Scheidt of Marion, SD, Nina Stubbe of Scranton, IA and Shirley Buseman of Chancellor, SD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sheila was preceded in death by her grandparents.
