Sally Hofmaier, age 86, of Crofton, Nebraska died on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with Reverend Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 29 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Pallbearers are Edwin, Dean, Luke and Ethan Kleinschmit, Steve and Shane Wieseler.
Celestine “Sally” Hofmaier was born July 31, 1938 in Wynot, Nebraska to Herman and Mary Ann (Arens) Lenzen. She grew up in the Wynot and St. James area and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, NE. After graduation, she stayed on the family farm to help raise all her younger brothers and sisters. Sally also babysat for several area families and worked for a few years at Dale Electronics in Yankton, SD. On July 22, 1964, Sally married Donald “Doc” Hofmaier in St. James, NE. After their marriage, they moved to Crofton where they owned and operated a veterinary business. Doc worked as a veterinarian while Sally took care of everything with the office. They worked together until Doc passed away on November 22, 2004. A few years after he died, Sally moved to his family farm north of Crofton. She loved being outdoors, working around the farm and in her garden. Sally also loved going hunting and fishing with Doc and spent many hours camping along the Missouri River. She was an active in her community and church as a member of St. Rose and the Crofton American Legion Auxiliary. Sally was an amazing mother and was always there for her family. She will be greatly missed.
Sally is survived by her son, David (Kathy) Hofmaier of Crofton; four grandchildren: Drew, Daniel, Brady and Peyton; three brothers: Louis (Carol) Lenzen of Buffalo, MN, Raymond (Crystal) Lenzen of Hartington and Martin Lenzen of Creighton, NE; six sisters: Marlene Pick of Erie, CO, Rita (Larry) Wittmeier of Vermillion, SD, Mary (Jim) Buechler of Papillion, NE, Linda (Mike) Anderson of Hancock, IA, Diane (John) Russo of Marble Falls, TX and Sharon Bennett of Kennewick, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Hofmaier; brother, Vernon Lenzen; and brothers-in-law, Jack Schaffer and Gerald Bennett.
