Robert Smith Jr.

Robert Smith Jr., age 59, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, December 9, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

No local services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton, South Dakota.

Robert Smith Jr. was born February 6, 1965, in Ary, Scotland, to Robert Sr. and Paulene (Nettingam) Smith. He grew up with his grandparents in Riverside, California and then moved in with his father. He graduated from high school at RAF Lakenheath Military Base in England. He moved back to the United States and joined the Navy serving his country all of the world. He then took an engineering job for the federal government in Bremerton, Washington. He retired in 2021 and enjoyed traveling the country in his fifth wheel. As his health started to decline in 2023, he moved to Yankton, South Dakota to live with his sister, Diana.

Robert loved food and cooking. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and racing sprint cars. He was very particular and if you were going to do a job you should do it right the first time. He had a big heart, would do anything for anyone and had a witty sense of humor and contagious smile.

Survivors include his two children: Sam (Megan) Smith of Bremerton, Washington and Amanda (Jarrot) Abrahamson of Bremerton; four grandchildren: Sam, Alice, Cody and Olivia; and two sisters: Diana (Tony) Arneson of Yankton and Kelly (Roy) Mintz of Sacramento, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Smith Sr. and Paulene Rebeiro as well as his grandparents.
