Robert “R.C.” Hoffman was born April 22, 1940 in Rushville, Nebraska, to William and Mary (Blomquist) Hoffman. He grew up and attended school in Rushville and then began working for his dad driving truck all over the country specializing in heavy loads. He enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. He married Judith Moynihan in October of 1965 and they lived in Glenwood, Iowa while Robert worked as an independent truck driver. Judith died in October of 1987 and Robert moved to Lesterville, South Dakota. He married Marilyn Papik in December of 1989 and continued trucking later working for Marquart Transportation. While working for Marquart, Robert assisted with the war effort during Desert Storm, procuring equipment and teaching transportation classes at Fort Dix. Robert lost his sight which forced him to retire in 2005. After his retirement he spent some time at the Hines VA Blind Rehab Center in Chicago, which he really enjoyed with the other veterans at the hospital.
Robert was a strong willed, hard working man who would help anyone in need. He loved his family, his cats, his dogs, and his country. He was very proud to have served his country and especially enjoyed the Forth of July. He collected garden trains, model cars, guns and antique tractors. He will be missed.
