Raymond E. Kokesh, age 90, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2020, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation will be one our prior to the funeral on Monday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Raymond E. Kokesh was born May 30, 1929, in Wagner, South Dakota, to Tom and Minnie (Bucholtz) Kokesh. He grew up in Wagner where he attended school through the 8th grade. Ray moved to Yankton where he met and married Shirley Alexander on September 6, 1959. Ray worked at a number of places including Morgan Manufacturing, Montgomery Wards, Gurney Seed and Nursery and K-Mart.
Ray enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, being a Twins and Vikings fan and collecting coins. He loved spending time at Sertoma Park watching baseball and softball games. Ray was a kind and quiet man who had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his son, David (Teresa) Kokesh of Yankton; daughter, Cynthia Kokesh (Mike Creeger) of Peoria, Arizona; three grandchildren: Jessica Kokesh of Ogden, Utah; Amanda (Carter) Orr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Chase Creeger of Peoria, Arizona; brother, Roy (Leona) Kokesh of Vermillion, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; two grandchildren: Alexander and Laura Kokesh; brother, Lewis Kokesh; three sisters: Sylvia Strehlow, Mamie Rieman and Lillie Lawyer; and many nieces and nephews.
