Phyllis “Toots” Horlyk, age 75, of Gayville, South Dakota, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Wiespfennig officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 9, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM with Pastor Linda Jorgensen officiating. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Pallbearers are her grandsons: Tyler Wuebben, Adam Severson, Cody Juttelstad, Tanner Maddox, Austin Jorgensen, Zach Barta, Trey Barta, Blake Getman, Tommy Huether, Timmy Jensen, Kyle Huether, Jack Huether and Tristan Huether. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters and great grandchildren. Phyllis Ann Horlyk was born November 17, 1942 in Yankton, South Dakota to Emil and Phyllis (Nikodym) Novak. She grew up in Yankton where she graduated from Yankton High School. She married Don Huether and they were blessed with three children. In 1968, Phyllis married the love of her life, Dale Horlyk and to this union, they were blessed with seven daughters. They lived in Yankton and Phyllis managed Casey General Store for over 30 years. In 1983, they moved to Volin and after Dale passed away in 2002, she moved to Gayville. Toots enjoyed living in Gayville and could see all the action down Main Street as well as all the activity at the school. Toots spent the last month of her life living with her daughter in Lubbock, TX. Family was everything to Toots and she loved visiting with them and being a part of their lives. If anyone in her family had a birthday or anniversary, they received a special card from Toots. She was so loving and giving and always had a positive outlook on life. She had a great sense of humor and loved to dance. Toots enjoyed candy and always had treats for the grandchildren. Toots helped start the 60’s Club Friends Forever. She looked so forward to their once a month night out. Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her. Phyllis is survived by 10 children: Tom (Deanna) Huether of Volin, SD, Bill (Robin) Huether of Viborg, SD, Tammy Huether of Irene, SD, Tabby Juttelstad of Lubbock, TX, Delrae (Steve) Wuebben of Gayville, Sam (Stuart) Anderson of Yankton, Sherry (Mike) Haas of Beresford, SD, Shelly (Paul) Jorgensen of Lubbock, Sara (Brent) Barta of Volin and Heidi (Cregg) Getman of Beresford; 24 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Emil (Char) Novak and Raymond (Kate) Novak, both of Yankton; sister-in-law, Deb (Bill) Schaefer of Yankton; brother-in-law, Jeff Watson of Yankton; many nieces, nephews and friends, especially the 60’s Club who are friends forever. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Horlyk on April 6, 2002; grandson, Bryce Huether; four brothers: Cliff (Dorothy), Marvin “Red” (Loreen), Joe (Delores), and Laddie (Sandy); and a sister-in-law, Carol Williams.
