Philip V. Donner

Philip V. Donner age 90 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Avera Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. An Duy Phan officiating. Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128.  Visitation will be on Friday, at church from 1:00 until service time at 2pm.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Pallbearers will be Larry Stallbaum, Ryan Stallbaum, John Donner, Dick Donner, and Dave Hames. Philip Valentine Donner was born on February 14, 1931 in Crofton, Nebraska to Benjamin and Anna (Foecke) Donner.  Philip grew up in the Crofton area and attended Crofton High School.  He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 2/13/1952- 2/13/1954.  Upon his return from serving his country he farmed until 1970 and then he ran the service station on the west side of town, naming it Donner’s Service.  A few years later he bought what was known as Jerry’s Service and then renamed it Phil’s Service.  Philip owned both for a while and then just the one station – Phil’s Service. He sold the station in September of 1995. He married LeAnn Mary Mines on December 29, 1959 in Crofton.  She died on 2/20/1985. Philip was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Crofton American Legion Post #128 and was past commander of the Legion where he served in that role for five years.  He was also a member of the Hartington VFW Post #5283 and a charter member of the Crofton Lakeview Golf Course. Philip is survived by his son Jeff Donner of Crofton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife LeAnn; son Greg (Lori) Donner; seven brothers Lawrence, Raymond, Francis, Charles, George, Paul, And Ralph Donner; sister Irene Hames. Casual dress for the funeral is recommended. In lieu of flowers memorials are to be directed to the Crofton American Legion Post #128.
