Paul A. Schurman Jr. age 89 of Randolph, Nebraska died on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his residence in Randolph, NE. Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph with the Rev. Timothy W. Forget officiating. Burial will be at the St. Jane Frances de Chantal cemetery in Randolph. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church in Randolph, from 2-5:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Paul’s grandsons – Mark Coenen, Tim Lurz, Anthony Lurz, Chris Korth, Cameron Korth, Ryan Schurman, Tyler Schurman, Colby Promes, Eric Schurman, and Colin Schurman. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul’s granddaughters – Melissa Grubb, Michelle Coenen, Cassandra Huff, Tabitha Willan, Catrina Winkelbauer, Angela Lange, Katie Jones, Holly Schurman, and Camela Rathje. Paul Andrew Schurman Jr. was born on May 4, 1929 in Lantry, S.D. to Paul Andrew and Rose (Marx) Schurman Sr. He grew up in the Wynot, Nebraska area and attended country school until the 8th grade. He started working as a hired farm hand at age 16 for several area farmers. Paul married Mary Ann Eskens on November 16, 1949 at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in St. James, NE. He and Mary Ann moved to a farm east of Randolph in 1959. He continued to milk cows and raise grain and livestock. Paul Jr. was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church and was an usher there. Paul liked to play cards and spent countless hours to his vocation of farming. Paul is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Mary Lou Coenen of Randolph, Kary (Dave) Lurz of Verdigre, Barb (Doug) Korth of Randolph, Steve Schurman of Randolph, Roger (Linda) Schurman of Firth, NE, Randy (Lisa) Schurman of Coleridge, Chuck (Karen) Schurman of Wynot; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two brothers Norman and Larry Schurman of Yankton, SD; sisters-in-law Joyce Schurman of Yankton, SD, Marlene Eskens of Coleridge, Rita (Marvin) Wieseler of Wynot; brother-in-law Bill Eskens of Jefferson City, MO. Preceding Paul in death were his parents, wife Mary Ann on July 31, 2007 at the age of 79 years; two brothers Wilfred and Jim Schurman; sisters Dolores and Romaine.
