Patrick E. Mallatt, 88, died after a long illness on August 4, 2018, at the home of his daughter, Ann, and son-in-law Mark Killenbeck, who were by his side, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Laurel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel, Nebraska.
Pat was born September 12, 1929 in Hartington, NE to the late Dale and Marie (Uhing) Mallatt. He spent his early life in Wynot and then graduated from Laurel High School. He married Joan Ericson in Laurel on August 7, 1954.
After five years in the U.S. Navy serving as a radar approach control operator, including at Port Lyautey French Morocco, he entered the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with honors. Pat worked for 32 years in Lincoln Public Schools teaching math, electronics, and aeronautics, and was chosen by colleagues at Lincoln East and Lincoln Northeast as Teacher of the Year.
Pat is survived by his wife Joan (Ericson) Mallatt of Lincoln; their two children, Jeff Mallatt of Arlington, Massachusetts, and Ann (Mark) Killenbeck of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Jessica Killenbeck; two brothers, L.J. “Ole” Mallatt of Laurel, William (Janet) Mallatt of South Sioux City; and two sisters Shirley (Marlen) Kraemer of Laurel, and Saundra (Melvin) Bottger of Grand Island. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald Mallatt and wife Phyllis; and sister-in-law Marian, wife of L.J. Mallatt.
