Otto "Doug" Kneifl

Otto "Doug" Kneifl age 76 of Newcastle, Nebraska died on Monday, May 13, 2024 at his residence while under Hospice care.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle with the Rev. Jim Kramper officiating.  Burial of his cremated remains will be at Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle with military rites by the Newcastle American Legion Post 62 and the American Legion Riders.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chase Dendinger, Dylan Dendinger, Jacob Kneifl, Turner Dendinger, Brooks Kneifl, and Jaxson Kneifl.

 Otto Douglas was born on June 15, 1947 in Ponca, Nebraska to Mark and Gayle (Wendte) Kneifl Sr.  He grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1965.  Doug enlisted in the United States Navy and served three tours during the Vietnam War on the USS Enterprise from 1966-1970.   He was honorably discharged and returned to Newcastle to work with his father Mark Sr. at the Castle Bar until he took over ownership of the bar.  Doug retired in 2017 after working over 40 years at the Castle Bar.

 Doug was a member of the Newcastle American Legion Post 64 and the Eagles Club in Vermillion, SD.  He was an EMT for over 30 years with the Newcastle Fire and Rescue squad.  Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, western movies, the Chicago Cubs, and following the Wayne State Volleyball team.  He also enjoyed all of his grandchildren’s activities.

 Doug is survived by his two children Scott (Jennifer) Kneifl of Wayne, Kristen (Jason) Dendinger of Hartington; six grandchildren Jacob, Brooks, and Jaxson Kneifl of Wayne, Chase (Dannika) Dendinger & their daughter (Kienna) of Bennington, Dylan and Turner Dendinger of Hartington; a brother Kirk (Denise) Kneifl of Newcastle; nephew Brent (Shannon) Kneifl of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; niece Megan (Mike) Sorenson of Newcastle; three great nieces and three great nephews.

 Doug was preceded in death by his parents Mark and Gayle Kneifl Sr.; a brother Mark “Buss” Kneifl.
