Ole T. Olson Jr., age 67, of Avon, South Dakota died surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota following a brief battle with brain cancer.
A celebration of his life will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Friendensberg Church south of Avon, SD. Burial will be at a later date at the Norwegian Cemetery in Avon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Ole was born July 28, 1957 in Tacoma, Washington to Ole Sr. and Marilyn (Dvorak) Olson. The family moved to Avon when Ole was a child and he graduated from Avon High School in 1975. After high school, Ole traveled around the country with many different jobs, specializing in the oil industry. Those who knew him, knew his drive and passion for taking on challenges and creating innovative solutions to problems. He was never one to confine himself to a box. He was one who loved sharing his skill set and teaching younger generations through the different jobs, businesses, and opportunities he created. In addition to all of his other business ventures, he also ran the family farm.
On December 6, 2014, he married Donna (Maynell) Duncan and continued their life together working the family farm, running and co-owning Camino Grill and Bar, and enjoying hobbies together. Together they shared a joy for flying, spending time with family, and being together and working together in all they did.
Ole is survived by his wife, Donna Olson of Avon, SD; five children: Brittany Kelly of Yankton, Alexandria Duncan (fiancé, Cole Miller) of Avon, Kylee (Cody) Barse of Sioux Falls, Lexi (Logan) Gores of Yankton and Wyatt Duncan of Avon; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Weston, Bennett and Arthur; his sister, Pam (Mike) Denker of Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.
Ole was preceded in death by his parents.
