Monica (Aune) Cooke, age 71, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Autumn Winds Assisted Living in Yankton. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Trondjhem Lutheran Church in Volin, South Dakota with Pastor Mark Ostrem officiating. Burial will be in Trondjhem Lutheran Cemetery in Volin. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers are Skyler Wuebben, Rodney Aune, Chad Aune, Jerad Rokusek, Matt Aune, and Travis Cooke. Monica (Aune) Cooke was born February 12, 1947, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Freelan and Janice (Thomsen) Aune. She grew up on a farm north of Mission Hill, South Dakota and graduated from Volin High School in 1965. She worked as a waitress at the Riviera Café and then at Happy Jacks. She married Dale Cooke on February 21, 1970 in Volin, South Dakota. They lived in Yankton and Monica worked for Dale Electronics, Gurney’s, M-Tron, HyVee and lastly at Walmart in the bakery until retiring in 2015. Monica was a member of Trondjhem Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed time spent with her two best friends: Mary Kay Rokusek and Ruth Adams. Monica never met a stranger and was always smiling. Along with her faith, her family was the most important part of her life. She always loved spending time and playing games with her family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Misty Cooke of Yankton; two grandchildren: Skyler Wuebben and Jadyn Cooke; parents, Freelan and Janice Aune of Mission Hill, South Dakota; brother, Douglas (Marcia) Aune of Loveland, Colorado; four sisters: Pamela (Norman) Rokusek of Yankton; Marsha (David) Heckenlively of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Joyce (Dennis) Meyer of Winner, South Dakota; and Candace Fromm of Yankton; two sisters-in-law: Karen Aune of Volin, South Dakota and Arletta Aune of Rapid City, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
