Mildred "Millie" Lane

Mildred “Millie” Lane, age 95, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, August 26, 2019, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, August 30, 3019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 6:45 PM and a Vigil service at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers are David Lane, Sean Crandall, Keith Brownell, Curtis Knapp, Carter Ewing, Jerod Crandall, Levi Brownell, and Corey Ewing. Mildred “Millie” Lane was born, March 28, 1924, in Yankton, South Dakota, to John and Frances (Bohaty) Kaiser. She grew up on the farm near Yankton and attended country school for a while and then finished her education in Yankton. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton and married Leo Lane on July 15, 1941, at Sacred Heart. Soon after their marriage, Leo left to serve his country during World War II. During Leo’s deployment, Millie stayed in Yankton to raise their daughter, Judi. After Leo returned from the war they continued to live in Yankton where their son Jerry was born. They then moved to Vermillion, South Dakota in 1958, where Millie worked for the Vermillion Public Schools for 11 years. While living in Vermillion they had two more children, Mary-Lou and Rick. Upon her retirement in 1999, Millie and Leo returned to Yankton. Millie relished being a wife and mother. She was a member of the Extension Club in Yankton and Clay counties for 40 years, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, life member of the Senior Citizens Center, and charter members of the Clay County Ramblers Camping Club as well as the Second Sams. Millie loved traveling, camping and visiting the national parks. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, and crafting. Her creativity shined through her love of crocheting, knitting and quilt making. Millie was a smart woman who shared her keen insights freely and always with a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her three children: Judi (Sonny) Olson of Yankton; Mary-Lou Lane of Parker, Colorado, and Rick (Aleshia) Lane of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren: David, Mindy, Michelle, Lyn and Teresa; 11 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cora Lane of Manhattan, Kansas and sister-in-law, Bertha Kaiser of Yankton. She was preceded in death by her dear and loving husband, Leo Lane on February 8, 2009; two sons, Jerry and Kenny; her parents; three brothers, one half-sister and four half-brothers. Millie will be remembered as a loyal wife, caring grandmother and loving great grandmother.
