Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 17 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 6:45 PM, followed by a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the church.
Matthew was born February 25, 1979 in Yankton, South Dakota to Roger and Mary Rose (Arens) Johnson. He grew up in Yankton and attended Yankton High School. Matt could fix about anything and worked most of his life in construction including plumbing and building grain bins. Matt moved to Indianapolis, IN in 2003 where he was employed by Holland Roofing and enjoyed the luxury of working and traveling the country. After the passing of his father, Matt moved back to his hometown of Yankton to take care of his mother.
Matthew was always there for his family and friends whenever they needed his help. Matt was quick to lend a tool or an ear. Chances are, if he didn’t answer his phone someone had beaten you to the punch because he was already lending his efforts to a project or his spontaneity and sense of adventure had led him outdoors. Matt enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing, kayaking and playing tennis. He also enjoyed photography, music, reading and Sudoku puzzles. Matt rooted for the New York Yankees and cheered on the Denver Broncos. Above all, family came first and he was the favorite uncle to his beloved nieces and nephews.
Matt will be greatly missed by his mother, Mary Johnson of Yankton; six brothers and sisters: Stephanie (Mike) Reed of Lincoln, NE, Philip Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, Sara (Al) Lipka of Lincoln, NE, Christopher Johnson of Yankton, Nicholas (Christy) Johnson of Yankton and Amber Johnson of Yankton; son, Daxton Comstock; 13 aunts and uncles; nine nieces and nephews; and a LOT of cousins.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Roger Johnson on September 13, 2005; grandparents: Paul and Evelyn Johnson and Henry and Sally Arens; and five aunts and uncles.
