Martin Gregory Kneifl age 92 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, NE.
There will be a public visitation to receive friends on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Crofton City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton, Nebraska.
Martin was born on February 15, 1932 in Newcastle, Nebraska to Gregory Philip and Helen Magdalene (Bennett) Kneifl. Martin grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean War. He married VerLynn JoAnne Cross on April 14, 1956 in Crofton, Nebraska. They rented a farm near Newcastle until 1970 when they moved to Lindy, Nebraska. Martin continued to farm in the Lindy area, raising various grain crops, feeder cattle, farrowing hogs, along with doing custom work for area farmers.
Martin was a past president of the Bloomfield Ruritan Club and was also active in the Lindy Volunteer Fire and Rescue Unit.
He is survived by his wife VerLynn of Crofton; two children Bruce (Rhonda) Kneifl of Newcastle, Rebecca Palu of Osmond; three grandchildren Mandy (Greg) Gear of Norfolk, Whitney Palu and fiance Joshua Barger of Norfolk, Alexander Palu of Lincoln; two great grandchildren Trinn Kneifl and Lennon Gear of Norfolk; three sisters Josephine Walsh of Ponca, Sue (Bob) Wendte of Newcastle, Beth Duits of Vining, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gregory and Helen Kneifl; grandson Justin Kneifl; a brother Clair Kneifl; sister Ann Johnson; infant brother Bruce G. Kneifl.
