Marjory (Neal, Kadous) Maxon, age 96, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Friday, February 9, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Yankton with Reverend Katie Ricke officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Marjory Lee Neal, daughter of Theo and Hazel Neal, was born February 4, 1927, in Shell Rock, Iowa. After graduating high school, she taught in the same one-room country school her mother had taught. Marjory played piano for church and weddings, hauling her old upright to South Dakota in the late 1940’s after marrying her high school sweetheart and WWII returning marine, Harm Kadous. They had four girls: Sue, Barb, Nancy and Pam. Marjory lost Harm in 1953.
After Harm’s passing, Marjory began her 24-year career as an X-ray Technician at the Yankton Medical Clinic. In March of 1958, Marjory married Bill Maxon, her love of 51 years. She enjoyed family time on their houseboat on Lewis and Clark Lake, reunions in Shell Rock, family vacations to the Hills, and weekends visiting Bill’s folks, Georgia and Percy, on the home farm near Tripp, South Dakota. Marjory and Bill also enjoyed traveling with friends and the annual Buffalo Stampede was a highlight. She valued and actively participated in her Methodist Church community. Marjory loved the dream house she and Bill helped design and her gardens that overlooked Lewis and Clark Lake. After retirement, they happily wintered at their home in Arizona.
Marjory (Marge to many) cherished her lifelong friends from church, sewing club and china painting. Her welcome smile and endearing laughter will echo in our hearts. A strong, truly kind and loving mother and friend; she lifts us up.
Blessed for having shared her life are her four daughters: Sue Higman (Harold Jr.) of Akron, Iowa, Barb Kadous of Surprise, Arizona, Nancy Kadous (Pat Keating) of Madison, South Dakota, and Pam Kadous (Kevin Kelley) of Spink, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; and sisters-in-law, Janice Neal and Jean (Kadous) Cain of Shell Rock, Iowa.
Marjory was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, and granddaughter, Terryll (Green) Haro.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Akron Care Center for six years of ever-loving care. A memorial has been established in Mother’s name: Marge Maxon Garden Memorial c/o Akron Care Center, 991 Hwy 3, Akron, Iowa 51001.
