Marilyn was born on May 19, 1937, in Yankton, SD to George and Marie (Isakson) Munkvold. The family farmed in rural Viborg, SD. She attended Lone Star, a one-room school house in rural Viborg and graduated from Irene, SD in 1955. She married Maynard Jensen on June 1, 1955 in rural Viborg. They lived on a farm in rural Wakonda. The couple moved to Huron where Maynard started working for National Farmers Union Insurance Company. They moved to Yankton in 1960 and made this their long-time home. Marilyn supported her husband’s NFU business, while making her top priority the family’s needs. She attended every school and church function of her daughters and later her grandchildren.
Marilyn was a member of Discovery Church in Yankton. She loved spending time with her friends and family - especially her three grandchildren. She was involved in Prayer Shawl Ministries, attending church activities, and Bible Studies. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior was something she modeled with everyone who crossed her path. She was a member of the Yankton Community Concert Association for several years. She has been a devoted member since 1970 of a club originally started as the Stitch’n’Stew Extention Club. Her two daughters and her treasured three grandchildren were her life − sharing a rich love and close-knit relationship. Traditions were celebrated the same way each holiday with special meals prepared with love. She loved to cook and bake. She collected cookbooks and always tried new recipes. She was a gifted seamstress; sewing for weddings, costumes and clothing for her girls and herself. Many fortunate loved ones received afghans that Marilyn crocheted. Playing cards and games with family and friends was an enjoyed pastime. Her quick wit and sense of humor kept everyone in stitches.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters: DeeRhonda Anderson of Yankton and Dianna Rajski of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Reese Anderson, Addison and Bergen Rajski; sisters-in-law, Pam Munkvold of San Tan Valley, AZ and Carol Munkvold of Marion; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also missing her presence are lifelong friends, Joyce Tschetter of Sioux Falls and her extended family, and long-time neighbor, Bill Magera and his family.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Marie (Isakson) and George Munkvold; husband, Maynard Jensen on April 21, 2013; brothers: Ordell Munkvold, Cornell Munkvold, and Vernon Munkvold; mother and father-in-law, David and Segria Jensen; sisters: Elvina Nordland and Margery Jensen.
