Mae Mutchelknaus, age 93, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton. A memorial service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Wildermuth officiating.  Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland, South Dakota.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Women of the Moose. Mae Mutchelknaus was born April 27, 1926, in Menno, South Dakota to John and Rosalia (Grosz) Maul.  She grew up and attended school in Yankton, South Dakota graduating from Yankton high School in 1944.  She then moved to Van Nuys, California and worked as a waitress for a few years.  She returned to Yankton and a few years later married Edwin Mutchelknaus on February 14, 1948 in Yankton.  She worked for the Ma Bell Telephone Company for a few years until moving to the farm near Scotland, South Dakota and took great pride in raising her family.  They moved back into Yankton in 1989 to be closer to their grandchildren. Mae was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Scotland for many years and was very active in bible studies and in the Ruth Circle. When they moved to Yankton, she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She also was very active with the Women of the Moose at the Moose Lodge in Scotland. She later transferred to Yankton’s Chapter where she continued her membership. She had a strong faith in God and would start every morning reading her daily devotional. She enjoyed gardening, canning pickles, and making pumpkin pies. She was an avid sports fan, especially if it involved one of her family members or her grandkids. She spent many hours at softball games, soccer games, basketball games or golf. She also loved watching tennis and golf tournaments on TV. She loved music, dancing, and visiting with friends but she especially loved her family. She would always put her children first and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Survivors include her two children: Jerald Mutchelknaus of Yankton and Debra (Gail) Gubbels of Yankton; two grandsons: Marcus Gubbels of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Matthew Gubbels of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Helmuth Maul of Grand Island, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; one sister; two brothers; and six half-sisters.
