Yankton

Loretta B. Albrecht, age 97, of Yankton, South Dakota, went to join her Lord and family on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Angelhaus in Yankton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with her nephew Reverend Jeremy Hans officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a vigil service and rosary at 7:00 PM.

Pallbearers are Dan and Dean Albrecht, Nick and Jake Meyers, Collin Nemmers, and Sean O’Grady. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Loretta was born in St. Helena, Nebraska, on November 25, 1927, to Claude and Theresa (Wieseler) Becker, the first of seven girls. She grew up on a family farm in St. Helena, Nebraska. She attended the Immaculate Conception School through 8th grade and graduated from Mt. Marty High School in Yankton in 1945. Following graduation in 1945, she attended one year of college at Mt. Marty College. After college, Loretta moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and worked at Mutual Life Insurance Company for three years doing secretarial work. She then moved back to Yankton and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for General Finance Company, and then Yankton Radiology before working at the Yankton Medical Clinic P.C. where she worked as a data entry clerk until her retirement at the age of 85. Loretta married James Albrecht on April 4, 1951, and had four children: Diane, Donna, Daniel, and Dean. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton and belonged to VFW Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society.

Loretta enjoyed playing cards with friends and being with her family. She loved spending the holidays with family and making delicious meals for them. One of her specialties was her fried chicken and potato salad. She also liked to do embroidery work and going to The Center to exercise and visit with friends. She instructed chair exercises where she lived at Sunrise Apartments.

Loretta moved to Angelhaus in September of 2023 where she met new friends and enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include her four children: Diane (Jack) Meyers, Donna Albrecht (Bob Novotny), Dan Albrecht, and Dean Albrecht (Beth Coulson): all of Yankton, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Nick (Jessica) and Jake (Bridget) Meyers, Kaitlyn, Kendyll and Kristyn Albrecht; six great-grandchildren: Molly, Eli, Alex, Charlie, Harrison and Ben Meyers; and two sisters: Marilyn Lund and Geralda Backman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; and sisters: Lou Ann Kline, Jean Hans, Joan Becker, Claudette Stappert.
