Lonnie Huber, age 64, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Weispfennig officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Lonnie Huber, son of Bert and Helen (Schoppert) Huber, was born January 20, 1954 at the Freeman Community Hospital in Freeman, South Dakota. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School for eight years. He then helped with the farming operation until the age of 18. On November 25, 1972 he married Merry Jane Tschetter, daughter of Paul S. and Susie Tschetter of Bridgewater, South Dakota. They lived in Menno, South Dakota where Lonnie was employed one year with Pfeifle’s Mobil and five years with Hutchinson County Highway Department. In 1978 the couple moved to Yankton, South Dakota where Lonnie was involved in home real estate, professional fur trapping, fur buying, and operated a mail order trapping supply business, a gun smith business and Huber Storage for over 20 years. Lonnie had complications with diabetes for over 52 years.
Lonnie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton. Even with all of his health issues he was always upbeat and positive. He loved telling stories, trapping, hunting, working on guns, and he especially loved his family and was very proud of his son, Ryan.
Survivors include his wife, Merry Huber of Yankton; son, Ryan (Samantha Lachendro) Huber of Omaha, Nebraska; nephew, Matt; niece, Lisa; sister-in-law, Judy and his dog, Sweetie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Huber in March of 2018; and his dog, Oscar.
