Lonnie Herrboldt, age 79, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton, surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Yankton with Reverend Jacqueline Hickox-Morgan officiating. Following the committal service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton, a reception to celebrate his life will be held at the Yankton Elks Lodge. The family invites all to socialize and share memories. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Lonnie was born February 9, 1945 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Eugene and Laurene (Wright) Herrboldt. He grew up on the farm near Menno, SD and graduated from Menno High School in 1963. Lonnie married his high school sweetheart, Connie Guthmiller, just a few weeks after graduation on May 29, 1963. After their marriage, they lived in Menno for one year where Lonnie worked for the City of Menno. Then Lonnie took a job at Welfl Construction and they moved to Yankton. He worked there for almost 20 years until 1984 when he started his own construction company, Herrboldt Construction. His sons later joined him in the company. Driving out to the shop was the highlight of his day. Lonnie was involved in many construction projects throughout Yankton. In his later years, he was always willing to help someone with a project or fix something for a friend.
Lonnie loved going deer hunting and really enjoyed bow hunting. When he was younger, Lonnie did a lot of pheasant hunting and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed working in his yard keeping everything looking nice and he always had a clean vehicle. Lonnie enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins with his wife, Connie. He was always there supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was very involved in his church and shared his many talents. Lonnie was an active member of the Yankton Elks for 41 years. He held many positions and was proud to be an Elk. Lonnie just loved people and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends over a hot cup of coffee or an ice cold beer.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Connie Herrboldt of Yankton; two children, Tammy (Jeff) DeJong of Volin, SD and John (MaryBeth) Herrboldt of Yankton; four grandchildren: Jessica (Joe) Hoffman of Volin, Travis (Jessica) DeJong of Moorhead, MN, Sam Herrboldt of Rapid City, SD and Emma Herrboldt of Yankton; four great grandchildren: Zoe and Cobe Hoffman and Ivar and Adler DeJong; three siblings: Merrith Herrboldt of Bay City, MI, Sherril Dubs of Menno and David (Jennifer) Herrboldt of Menno; and many nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd Herrboldt; and brother, Tom Herrboldt.
