Lois Eliason was born March 25, 1932 in Canton SD to Roy and Amanda (Brynjulson) Eliason. She grew up in the Canton area and graduated from Canton High School in 1950. She married D. Max Reade at Canton, SD in 1952. They lived in Canton, Vermillion, Chicago and Wichita, KS before settling in Yankton in 1962 when her husband began his medical practice. Max passed away in 1971. Lois worked at the ASCS office in Lincoln and Clay counties, early in her working years. She was later the office manager of the Yankton County Republicans from 1977 to 1984. In later years she worked as an in-home care provider, caring for the elderly, until her retirement in 2007. She had a servant heart and loved volunteering and helping others but was very humble and never wanted recognition for the things that she did.
Her biggest accomplishment in life, was raising her three young children, on her own, after the loss of her husband at an early age. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on many boards, WELCA and a member of PEO, Chapter K. She enjoyed playing bridge and never missed any of her grandchildren’s or children’s activities. Everyone was welcome in her home and she loved entertaining people. She was also very proud of her Norwegian Heritage.
She is survived by two sons: Doug (Karen) Reade of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Grant (Carol) Reade of Yankton; one daughter, Jill (Marty) Wermers of Yankton; six grandchildren: Nathan (Emily) Reade of Sioux Falls, Jackie Reade of Sioux Falls, Tara (Ryan) Burton of Sioux Falls, Kayla (Alex) Toupal of Yankton, Molly Wermers of Pierre, South Dakota and Ray Wermers of Savanah, Georgia; three great grandchildren, Addison and Clare Reade of Sioux Falls and Max Toupal of Yankton.
