Lily Marion Ellyson age 83 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Concord, NE with the Rev. William Bertrand officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Laurel cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.
Marion was born on June 20, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Soren and Marie C. Hansen. She grew up on a farm outside Dixon, Nebraska, and graduated from Dixon High School in 1956. She had a year of business school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at WITT. She worked for two years as a secretary in Sioux City for Staber Meats, then worked in Amarillo, Texas, as a secretary for John Morrell for two years. Marion then moved back to Laurel to help take care of her parents. She married Marvin Duane Ellyson on May 7, 1959, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel. Marion owned her own ceramics shop – Cedar Ceramics in Laurel. She was also an Avon representative for many years and a cook at the school. Marvin died on Sept. 14, 2019, at the age of 83.
Marion is survived by her special friend and caregiver Bob Harding of Laurel; daughter Cynthia Mae (Lonnie) Johns of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; bonus daughter Kim (Mark) Strathman of Randolph, Nebraska; grandchildren Jennifer Peterson of Dixon, Nebraska, Tyler Ellyson of Kearney, Nebraska, Marclay Johns of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Jessica Johns of New Brunswick, New Jersey; great-grandson Kage Peterson of Randolph, Nebraska; brother Gordon (Harriet) Hansen of Dixon, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents Soren and Marie Hansen; son Brian Ellyson in 2012; brother George Hansen; and sister Elin Powers.
