Leo Casey, age 85 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurel with the Rev. David Liewer and Rev. James McCluskey officiating. Burial will be at the Laurel Cemetery with Military Rites by the Laurel Veterans Post 4504 and 54. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church, from 3-6:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel. Pallbearers will be Julia, Calvin, Nolan, Anna, and Kolby Casey, and Lee Larson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Wege, Don Roeder, Dan Greeny, Bob Sanders, Dan Madsen. Leo Casey was born on October 31, 1932 to William Bernard and Emma (McIntyre) Casey in the Ponca-Jackson area. He was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson. They lived near the Ponca-Obert area before moving to Wayne. When Leo’s mother died, he stayed with the Beeks family in Wayne. They became family to him in so many ways. Leo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was stationed in Korea and Hawaii. Leo married the love of his life, Janice Loeb, at the Carroll Catholic Church on December 27, 1956. They farmed by Carroll and Belden, then moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Janice and Leo then moved to Laurel where Leo started his own business – Casey Roofing Company in 1964. Leo also restored and built new houses in Laurel. On weekends, he kept busy in another business, the Randolph Ballroom for 32 years. He and Janice met many wonderful people during these years. Leo is survived by his wife Jan of Laurel; son Jim and wife Dawn (Ebmeier) Casey of Laurel; grandchildren Julia, Calvin, Nolan, Anna, and Kolby Casey; sisters-in-law Jackie Casey of Colorado Springs & Laurie Loeb; nephews Bob and Rick Casey of Sioux City, Iowa, Tim Casey of Alabama, Tom, & Robert Casey of Colorado, Joe Casey of Kentucky, Pat Casey of Rockport, MO, Robert Loeb Jr. of Sioux City, IA, and Lonnie Curtis (Beatrice’s daughter) of Henderson, NV. Preceding Leo in death were his parents; son Donald in 1979; daughter Debra in 1986; parents-in-law Howard & Mildred (Tramp) Loeb and Beatrice (Noecker) Loeb; a sister Mary Casey, brothers Bill Casey of Sioux City, IA, Jim Casey of Buena Vista, CO, sister-in-law Betty Casey of Sioux City, IA; brothers-in-law Robert Loeb and Randy Casey of Norfolk.
