Lawrence S. Dreesen

Lawrence S. Dreesen, age 98 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev.  Owen Korte officiating.  Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283.  Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, at church, with a rosary recited at 12:30 p.m.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Pallbearers will be Darrell Dreesen, Mark Schmidt, Scott Kinkaid, Frank Johansen, Joseph Johansen, and Xavier Johansen. Lawrence Stephen Dreesen was born on August 17, 1920 in Coleridge, Nebraska to Stephen Edward and Rose Agnes (McDonald) Dreesen.  He received his education from various Cedar County Schools.  Lawrence served in the U.S. Airforce from 8/10/1942 until his discharge on 1/31/1946 in Santa Anna, CA.  He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant in ground and air communications.  Lawrence then enlisted in the Reserves for four years. He returned to Hartington where he was engaged in farming southwest of town. Lawrence had a sale in 1955 and then he moved to Seattle, Washington where he worked on B-52 jet engines at Boeing Airplane Company for several years. Lawrence returned to Cedar County and farmed again until his sale in 1994.  He then moved into Hartington. Lawrence had been a resident at the Hartington Care & Rehabilitation Center since June 7, 2018. Lawrence was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, served on the election board, member of Farmers Union Coop, and also sold seed corn.  He always enjoyed his neighbors, especially around Pleasant Valley. He was a lifetime member of the Hartington American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.  Lawrence always enjoyed farming and hunting. Lawrence is survived by numerous cousins in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Vincent and Stephen Dreesen.
