Larry Van Arsdale

Larry Van Arsdale, age 82, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, June 11, 2018 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Memorial services will be 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Crawford Cemetery in Crawford, Nebraska. Military honors will be provided by the Yankton Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post 791. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Larry Van Arsdale was born August 8, 1935 in Halsey, Nebraska to Anderson and Vera (Orthman) Van Arsdale. He grew up in Western Nebraska and graduated from Crawford High School in 1953. He enlisted into the United States Army and served as a paratrooper during the Korean War. After the war, he attended Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Larry worked as an engineer in Nebraska and California. He moved to Long Island, New York, where he met and later married Arlene Wiedemann. Larry and Arlene moved to Yankton in 1989 and they owned and operated Alpine Connectors which they continued until Larry’s retirement in 2017. Larry loved fishing with his dog, Sam and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a laid back, soft hearted, kind man who loved visiting and spending time with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Van Arsdale of Yankton; five children: Traci Van Arsdale of San Mateo, California; Brad (Holli) Van Arsdale of Casper, Wyoming; Bret (Tammy) Van Arsdale of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Scott (Kathy) Van Arsdale of Nowata, Oklahoma; and Holly Van Arsdale of Greeley, Colorado; five step-children: William Wiedemann of Wayne, New Jersey; Sharon Williams of Hampton Bays, New York; Steven Wiedemann of Riverhead, New York; Gail (Frank) Covas of Lake Ronkonkoma, New York; and Jean (Paul) Manheimer of Lake Ronkonkoma, New York; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
