Larry Lee Hamilton, age 78 of Crofton, Nebraska died at his residence on Sunday, November 17, 2019.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating. Burial will be at the Crofton City Cemetery in Crofton, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Pallbearers will be Larry’s grandchildren Brittany Hetzel, Robert Poppe, Ryan Poppe, Riley Sprakel, Zakary Poppe, Brady Sprakel, and Joey Sprakel.
Larry Lee Hamilton was born on December 14, 1940 on a farm near Newcastle, Nebraska to Joe and Wilma (Pretzer) Hamilton. He grew up and attended school in Newcastle, Maskell, and the Obert area. Larry married Betty Walter on September 24, 1966 in Hartington, Nebraska. They had two daughters, JoAnn and Peggy. They lived on a farm west of Crofton until 1969. In 1970 they moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska and in 1971 they moved back to Crofton.
Larry was an all-around worker doing many different jobs from farming his family’s farm to driving truck. While living in Bloomfield he worked at Phillips 66 Service and Cords Implement. After moving back to Crofton he began working for Crofton Public Schools. In 1979 Larry and his wife Betty bought The Crofton Café which they ran until May of 1988. He also worked for Crosley Sand and Gravel while running the café with his wife and daughters. In 1989 Larry started his career with the City of Crofton where he worked until he retired in December of 2006. Not one to sit still, he helped Crosley Sand and Gravel for a few years after retirement as well as tinkering around his home and helping anyone that would ask.
Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Crofton, He enjoyed working outside in his garden, cutting wood, building bird houses, and other wood projects. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife Betty of Crofton; two daughters JoAnn (Roger) Sprakel of Crofton, Peggy (Ronnie) Poppe of Crofton; seven grandchildren Brittany (Scott) Hetzel, Riley Sprakel, Braeden Sprakel, Joseph Sprakel, Robert Poppe, Ryan Poppe, Zakary Poppe; great grandchildren, Emersyn Hinz and Maverick Hetzel; two step great grandchildren Bella and Lola Hetzel of Crofton; two sisters Darlene Harling of Crofton, Maxine (Lowell) Tanderup of Vermillion, SD; sister-in-law Janet Hamilton of Hartington.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Joe & Wilma Hamilton; brother George, and great grandson Bentley Lammers.
