JoAnn passed away on May 5, 2019. Larry followed on February 23, 2024.
A graveside service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota, followed by a lunch at the Hospitality Center on the grounds of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.
Larry and JoAnn came home to Yankton after a lifetime in San Diego. Beginning in a trailer on 5th and Broadway in Yankton, they headed west in 1957 and made a home first at Mission Bay’s , DeAnza, then in a white beach cottage in La Jolla, with an orange tree in the backyard and the sound of the surf surrounding them. Becoming young parents bonded them for life. As did their constant curiosity and love of learning and adventure, with JoAnn keeping the arts in the forefront.
They cultivated a full circle of friends and family from DeAnza and La Jolla for holiday celebrations and first Saturday brunches. Christmas Eve at The Bevers was a tradition not to be missed! Eating was a favorite pastime of Larry and JoAnn’s. Anything edible was considered. JoAnn always had coffee brewing and Larry’s freezer full of “mystery meats” from Tip Top Market brought him endless joy. Oranges from their tree was standard fare. And they loved to drive. Up the coast, out to Yankton. With one year that took them across country to New York City in a 1957 Triumph TR3. New adventures were never far away. They were good, kind and caring people who knew how to treat others and each other. Together they made a home with a door that was always open, to everyone.
They are loved and missed by their children: Jolanda (Jim) and Lon (Denise); grandchildren: Jeni (Andy), Jamie, John (Catherine), and James (Abby); great grandchildren: Siena, Madeleine, Eloise, Elizabeth, Henry, William and Adalyn; nieces and nephews across the country they adored; and a family of friends from far and wide.
They were preceded in death by beloved parents: Anton and Rosella Anderson and Harold and Laura Bevers; siblings: Wallace (Glendae) Anderson, Rodney (Beatrice) Anderson, George (Sharon) Anderson, Rosemarie Anderson, and Gwen (Art) Knepprath.
