Koreen Etta Snow, age 96, of Gayville, South Dakota passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the family farm house.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Monday, April 7, 2025 at the Gayville-Volin United Methodist Church in Gayville. Koreen and her husband, Ken, who passed on December 5, 2022, will be buried at the Gayville Cemetery following the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Koreen was born November 12, 1928 in Vermillion, South Dakota to Willard and Mildred (Cowman) South. They moved to Gayville when Koreen was in the third grade. Ken and Koreen met in high school at a church youth group gathering. She graduated from Gayville High School in 1946. On July 6, 1947, Koreen married Ken Snow at the Gayville Methodist Church. They lived in Sioux City, IA for two years before returning to the family homestead where Ken was born to begin farming. In 1955, they moved to their current farm just north, across the road.
Koreen and Ken had seven children. Koreen enjoyed gardening and crafts and was a member of the local garden club. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with United Methodist Woman’s various outreach programs. She devoted her time as a Sunday school teacher with Ken and they participated in various roles in the church. Koreen enjoyed music and passionately supported her children's interests in the arts. In 1979, she attended Mount Marty College at the age of 50. She studied art under John Day and Ed Gettinger, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with her children in attendance. Koreen created hundreds of cherished paintings in the subsequent years. Many still grace the walls of the farm house along with the homes of their children, grandchildren and relatives. During this time, Koreen taught a 9 week art course for the Gayville-Volin School District. In 1985, she served on the Yankton Arts and Crafts committee. She was instrumental in starting the first annual Summer Arts and Crafts Festival at Riverside Park in Yankton, SD which continues to this day every August. Koreen and Ken spent their last years living at the farmhouse enjoying their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren under the care of their youngest daughter, Sarah.
Koreen is survived by Michael (Carmen) Snow of Gayville, daughter-in-law Margaret Snow of Queen Creek, AZ, Robin (Vickie) Snow of Renner, SD, Elizabeth (Roger) Mueller of Manchester, IA, Timothy Snow of Vermillion, SD, and Sarah (Dave) Gullikson of Gayville, SD; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Koreen was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Snow; two sons, Kirk and Terry Snow; and her sister, JoAnn Davis.
