Kenneth J. Uhing age 88 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, Nebraska with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.  Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Menominee with military rites by the Wynot American Legion Post 31, and American Legion Riders.  Visitation will be on Thursday, at church, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at church on Friday.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Pallbearers will be grandsons Nick Kleinschmit, Austin Uhing, Travis Luhr, Kyle Uhing, Kenneth Schroeder, Colton Uhing, Nathaniel Kemper, and Zachary Uhing, and granddaughter Kristie Steffen. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kenneth John Uhing was born on November 13, 1931 in Hartington, Nebraska to William A. and Bernadine L. (Frigge) Uhing.  He grew up in the Wynot & St. James area and graduated from Wynot High School in 1949.  Kenneth worked on the family farm prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1952-1954.  He served 13 months in Korea.  Ken married Dolorita Ida Kleinschmit on November 7, 1955 in Menominee.  Nine children were born to this union. Ken continued to farm until his health prevented him from doing so. Kenneth was a member of Holy Family parish and a former member of Sts. Philip & James parish in St. James. He served on the parish and school boards for St. James and Cedar Catholic Schools. He also served on the boards for Farmers Union Coop and Wynot Rural Fire District. He and Dolorita loved square dancing and ballroom dancing.  Ken was an EME and was a member of the Hartington VFW post 5283, the Wynot American Legion Post 31, and Bow Valley Park Association. While in the Army Kenneth was a member of the 8 Inch Highcore Fire Direction Artillery Division. Ken is survived by his wife Dolorita of Hartington; nine children and spouses Debra (Kevin) Kleinschmit of Menominee, Marsha (Kevin) Bonner of Madison, NE, Kenneth  D. Uhing of Brighton, CO, Kathy (Terry) Luhr of Omaha, NE, Kevin (Sandy) Uhing of Hartington, Sheryl (Roger) Schroeder of Yankton, SD, Gerard (Diane) Uhing of Pilger, NE, Lisa (Mark) Kemper of Eagle, NE, Scott (Cindy) Uhing of Lincoln, NE; 34 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; five sisters Jeanette Whitney of Guthrie Center, IA, Jolene (John) Manino of Omaha, NE, Claudette Wieseler of Omaha, Joyce Salvatori of Omaha, Janice (Jack) Meyer of Omaha; sisters-in-law Cleopha Uhing of Yankton, SD, and Janita Uhing of Crofton, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Stella Goeken and Elaine Ingberg; brothers Robert & Bill Uhing; grandson Joshua Uhing.
