Karlyn E. "Connie" Lewis

Karlyn E. “Connie” Lewis age 100 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Arbor Care Center in Hartington. Her husband was Walt Lewis.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating.  Burial will be at the Hartington City Cemetery.   Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 9-11:00 a.m. at church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Karlyn was born on 16 April 1923 in Hartington to Otto and Ruth Schwartz.   Connie graduated from Hartington Public High School in 1941.  She could not find a job in Hartington after graduation, so she moved to Los Angeles, CA and started working for the University of Southern California where 2 other girls from Hartington were already employed. Connie married Walter Floyd Lewis on October 21, 1965

  Connie returned to Hartington after her mother’s passing in 1971 to care for her father.  While living in Hartington she was a long-term employee for the Dime Store owned by the Carl’s where she met many of the young children that would become her care givers at the Hartington Nursing home.  She also volunteered at the V.F.W. Club and Ladies Auxiliary.  She passionately repaired all the flags after the Veterans Day and Memorial Day celebrations.  She was a regular attendee at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. She enjoyed watching all sports, she even found golf on T.V. as one of her favorites later in life. 

 She is survived by her son Tim (Michelle) in Utah, daughter Kathy (Bill) in Pennsylvania and son Richard in South Carolina, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Ruth Schwartz; her husband Walt on 5/5/1995 at the age of 74 years; her sisters Lucille, Mary Ann, Shirley; and a brother Leo Schwartz. 

In Lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the Hartington V.F.W or Trinity Lutheran Church.
