Karen Ann Wampol, age 55, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, August 15, 2022, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, Nebraska, with Reverend Craig Loecker officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hartington at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, Nebraska.

Karen Ann Wampol was born May 14, 1967, in Valentine, Nebraska, to Merle and Sandra (Schrempp) Loecker. She grew up in Hartington, Nebraska and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1985. She then attended Western Iowa Tech and graduated with a degree as a Dental Assistant. She married Terry Becker and worked for Dr. Litel in Hartington for many years. She and Terry lived in Arkansas for a short while, but moved back to the area and eventually settled in Yankton, South Dakota working at a dentist office there. She then started working as a cook at Majestic Bluffs, where she met and later married Jeremy Wampol on September 14, 2012.
Karen had a wonderful laugh and bubbly personality. She loved to visit with friends, play board games, and watch movies and game shows. She especially loved her family and enjoyed family get togethers and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Wampol of Yankton, South Dakota; parents, Merle and Sandra Loecker of Hartington, Nebraska; four brothers: Fr. Craig Loecker of Omaha, Nebraska; Keith (Michelle) Loecker and Curt (Kristi) Loecker of Hartington, Nebraska; and Chris (Melissa) Loecker of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Kathy (Steve) Smedra of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Kristi.
