Juliette (Johnson) Kamm

Juliette (Johnson) Kamm, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Friday, October 5, 2018 at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in rural Irene, South Dakota with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. Burial will be in West Our Savior Cemetery in rural Menno, South Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Pallbearers are her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren Juliette Ann Violet Kamm was born January 21, 1934 in rural Irene, South Dakota to Carl and Gena (Larson) Gran. She grew up on the farm and began teaching early in life to her dolls. She graduated from Scotland High School and then attended Southern State College to become a teacher. She then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion graduating with a Master’s Degree in Reading. She married Dale Johnson on August 8, 1954. Juliette began her teaching career at Morning Star in Hutchinson County, then Charles Mix Bon Homme School in Mellette, South Dakota, then in Holt County, Nebraska, she then became a Title 1 teacher in White River, South Dakota and Rising City, Nebraska. She retired from teaching in 1995 after 32 years of educating children. She married Ernest Kamm on May 11, 1996 and they lived in Scotland, South Dakota. Ernest died a year later and Juliette moved to Yankton. She also worked as a caregiver for the elderly in Scotland and in Yankton. Juliette was a member of Bethlehem Church and then Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Juliette loved children and loved being a teacher. She enjoyed puzzles, antiquing, dolls and traveling, including trips to Norway and Germany. Survivors include her four children: Gary (Tammy) Johnson of Yankton; Kurt (Dianne) Johnson of Yankton; Dennis (Donna) Johnson of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Marty (Pam) Johnson of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Elsie (Charles) Huntley of Yankton; sister-in-law, Lorna (Keith) Cameron and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Kamm; and two brothers, Clarence and Wilmer Gran. To send an online message to the family, please visit www.wintzrayfuneralhome.com.
