Julie Mae Orton, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Memorial services are 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Yankton with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be the Gayville Cemetery in Gayville, South Dakota. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, June 19 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday at the church. Julietta Mae Orton was born March 17, 1934 in Springfield, South Dakota to Sidney and Adeline (Moore) Huitema. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1952 and then married Gordon “Gordie” Orton on August 20, 1952 in Yankton. After their marriage, they lived in Yankton until the late 1950’s when they moved to Gayville. As their children grew up, Julie worked at the Farmer’s Store in Gayville which was owned by Gordie’s brother, Jim Orton. They moved back to Yankton in 1980 and Julie started working for the Blood Bank at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. She then worked as the lab receptionist at Yankton Medical Clinic until she retired in 1999. Julie loved her flower garden, reading, singing and dancing. She loved her family and always enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Julie always had a great sense of humor with a beautiful smile and sparkle in her eye. Julie is survived by her five children: Dan (Jean) Orton of Yankton, Susan (Robert) Scott of Vermillion, SD, David (Mary Jo) Orton of Sioux Falls, SD, Syndee (Mark) Droppers of Yankton, and Doug (Jill) Orton of Blair, NE; nine grandchildren: Katie Hayes, Rachel Orton, Jessica Tripp, Nicholas Tripp, Bethany Sorensen, Reid Sorensen, Layne Droppers, Zachary Orton and Jaime Orton; three great grandchildren: Madison Hayes, Elliott Hayes and Charlotte Tripp; and three sisters-in-law: Jackie, JoAnn and Erna Huitema. Julie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordie on May 29, 2011; three brothers: Sidney, Jon and Barry Huitema; and a sister, Marlene (Maynard) Raabe.
