Judith Kaye was born July 12, 1949, in Osmond, NE to Ralph and Nancy (Marts) Mord. She spent her childhood in Sioux City, Iowa. Judy was a graduate of Ogallala High School in 1967. She attended Grace University in Omaha, NE in 1968 and 1969. She spent summers at her grandparent’s farm west of Crofton. She trusted Christ as her Savior at a young age during Bible Camp and remained faithful to her Lord.
She married Richard H. Carlson, June 27, 1970. They lived north of Laurel on a farm until they moved into Laurel in 1990. They had three children. She helped on the family farm and worked at the Laurel Advocate, Hillcrest Care Center, Home Instead, and a daycare in her home. She loved Southern Gospel music, traveling, lighthouses and spending time with family, playing games.
She was an active member of Gideon’s auxiliary, the Lion’s/Leo’s Club and Concord Evangelical Free Church. She had a heart for those in need, the hurting, and the unnoticed. She welcomed people who needed help or a home. This passion was evident in her many years of work and service to her Lord through Vacation Bible School, Good News Club, Children’s Church, leading the Children’s Christmas program at church, the AWANA program and as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School because she was “able to learn the stories along with the children.”
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her son Scott (Kristin) Carlson of Wahoo, and daughters Debra Carlson of Wahoo, Sharon (Gary) Longe of Pierce; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Nelson of Ogallala, and brother Rahe Mord of Duluth, MN; her brothers/sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Nancy and older sister, Shirley Williams; and one brother-in-law Dave Nelson.
