Joyce Wiebenga

Joyce Wiebenga, age 77, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Jacob Van Der Linden officiating. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery in Springfield, South Dakota at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Joyce was born March 9, 1947 in Igloo, South Dakota to Edward and Frances (Larsen) Wright. She grew up and lived most of her life in Yankton. Throughout the years, Joyce worked as a waitress and for a sewing company west of Yankton. She also worked at M-Tron Industries for many years. On June 27, 1997, Joyce married Robert “Bob” Wiebenga at Riverview Reformed Church in Yankton. Together, they worked in security at Kolberg-Pioneer until she retired. They spend most of their retirement years in Springfield, SD and Joyce moved back to Yankton after Bob passed away on August 2, 2015. She spent the last seven years living at Angelhaus in Yankton. The family is so thankful for the excellent care and friendship she received from the wonderful staff there. Joyce loved playing bingo and played every Monday and Friday night. She also loved crocheting and made many blankets for her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by a brother, Andy Charles Wright of California; half-sister, Carol Joanne Gripp of Texas; in-laws: David “Bud” and Elaine Wiebenga of Springfield, SD, Julie Wiebenga of Clear Lake, IA and Shirley Wiebenga of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Wiebenga; sisters-in-law, Marlene Wiebenga and Mary Wiebenga; brother-in-law, Clarence “Clancy” Wiebenga; and a nephew, Greg Wiebenga.
