Joseph Leo Schollmeyer, age 78 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hartington, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:30 am at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with Rev. Timothy Podraza officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Monday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton is assisting with arrangements. Pallbearers will be: Joe Wiebelhaus, Scott Wiebelhaus, Robbie Wiebelhaus, Jillian McCoy, Chance McCoy, Brian Wiebelhaus, Debbie Wiebelhaus Joe was born on July 26, 1940 in Crofton, NE to Ernest and Antonia Mary (Calkins) Schollmeyer. He was a lifelong resident of Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School. He worked as a farm laborer for several area farm families. He also raised bees and sold Schollmeyer Farms honey. He worked for Knox County as a road grader, Pinkleman Sales in Hartington and later for Wiebelhaus Recreation in Crofton. He became a resident of the nursing home in Hartington in 2010. Joe was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and giving out free advice. Joe is survived by his Special Friends Brian and Debbie Wiebelhaus, his 3 sisters, Gisela and Bruce Bierbaum of Sun City West, Arizona; Louann and Francis Soukup of Wagner, SD; Juanita and Ken Lammers of Hartington, brother in law Lynn Townsend of Stafford, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Dorothea Townsend.
