Jonquil B. Haberer

Jonquil B. Haberer, age 80, of Milford, Nebraska and formerly of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Pallbearers are her grandsons: Jonah, Tate, Eli, Nicholas, Nathan and Nolan.  Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Delaney, Finley, Oakley, and Emily. Jonquil B. Haberer was born July 25, 1939 in Vermillion, South Dakota to Francis and Beatrice (Sullivan) Bartle.  Since her father was in the military her family moved often.  She spent most of her childhood in South Dakota.  In 1957 she graduated from University High School in Bloomington, IN. She married Richard Haberer in February of 1966 and together had five children: Dawn, Cynthia, Christopher, Anthony and Deborah.  After Richard passed away from cancer in 1978, Jonquil moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked as a librarian for Nebraska Wesleyan University.  She then moved her family to Vermillion, South Dakota and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of South Dakota in 1983.  After graduating from USD she moved to Yankton, South Dakota. Jonquil was very devoted to her Catholic faith, attending daily Mass, participating in bible studies and even moved to New Mexico to help the Franciscans set up their library at the monastery.  She loved to read, square dancing, and shoes and became involved with many women’s causes. Survivors include her five children: Dawn (Jeff) Longville of Del Rapids, South Dakota; Cynthia Haberer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Christopher (Tammy) Haberer of Gretna, Nebraska; Anthony Haberer of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Deborah Haberer of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren: Jonah, Tate, Eli, Delaney, Finley, Oakley, Nicholas, Emily, Nathan and Nolan; and two brothers: Bill (Kris) Bartle of Hurricane, Utah and Jeff (Judy) Bartle of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard.
