John Clyde Jansen, age 62 of Fordyce, Nebraska, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Menominee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 4:00 pm at the church. Visitation will continue at 9:30 am on Monday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements. John was born on July 14, 1955 in Yankton, SD to Leonard Christopher and Mary Wilhelmina (Feilmeier) Jansen. He grew up in the Fordyce and Menominee area and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1973. He worked for Dennis Schieffer Masonry after high school. John married Phyllis A. Wiepen on April 16, 1977 in St. Helena, NE. After their marriage John continued to farm in the Fordyce and Menominee area and while also continuing his brick laying profession at John Jansen Masonry.
John was a member of the St Boniface Catholic Church and served as a trustee on the parish council. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Fordyce Coop and also was a former member of the West Catholic School Board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a strong supporter of Catholic education. John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Jansen brothers, playing cards, Sunday drives, Allis Chalmers tractors, traveling with wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jansen of Fordyce, 3 children, Jackie and Ernest Lockett and their children, Easton and Emerson (arriving in 10 weeks) of Moore, OK, Justin and Stephanie Jansen and their children, Alexis, Paisley and Keaton of Elk Point, SD; Jill and Chris Senior of San Diego, CA; 9 siblings, Doris Hochstein of Bow Valley, NE; Ken Jansen of Omaha, NE; Delbert Jansen of Crofton, NE; Mavis and John Mines of Norfolk, NE; Melvin and Sharon Jansen of Menominee, NE; Bette and Clayton Heimes of St. Helena, NE; Leonarda and Joe Arens of Crofton, NE; Gail Milander of Hartington, NE; LuAnn and Mike Steffen of Laurel, NE; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Jansen of Crofton; parents-in-law, Alphonse and Gertrude Wiepen of Coleridge, NE and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary Jansen, 3 infant sisters, Arlene, Nadine and Rosemary Jansen, a brother, Vern Jansen and 3 brothers-in-law, Duane Wiepen, Gary Hochstein and Doug Milander.
