Joe A. Hochstein age 71 of St. Helena died on Friday, June 28, 2019 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception cemetery in rural St. Helena with military rites by the Wynot American Legion Post 31 and the American Legion Riders.  Visitation will be on Monday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Pallbearers are Jamie Lammers, Pat Hochstein, Marcus Hochstein, Matt Hochstein, Scott Becker, and Chad Jansen. Joseph Arthur Hochstein was born on April 30, 1948 in Yankton, SD to Paul and Evelyn (Arens) Hochstein. He grew up in the Bow Valley area and attended District 13 country school and Wynot High School.  Joe volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  After his honorable discharge he farmed and worked at the Yankton Human Services Center in the dairy barn.  Joe worked 20 years for Baldwin Filters in Yankton.  He still continued to farm until his health prevented him from continuing. Joe was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Wynot American Legion Post 31, he loved to deer hunt and enjoyed the John Deere antique two cylinder tractors. Joe is survived by his wife, Linda of St. Helena; four children and spouses Tim Hochstein of St. Helena, Brian Hochstein of St. Helena, Janet (Nick) Odens of Yankton, Jeff (Kari) Hochstein of Hartington; five grandchildren; brothers and sisters – Alvin (Heidi) Hochstein of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Richard “Dickie” Hochstein of Hartington, Ron (Diane) Hochstein of Bow Valley, Mary Jean (Alvin) Lammers of Fordyce, Dallas (Dorothy) Hochstein of Hartington, Diane (Clinton) Becker of Fordyce, Bob (Jeannie) Hochstein of Yankton, SD; many nieces and nephews; family friend Sharon Thoene. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Evelyn; son Michael, a brother Clare Hochstein; brothers-in-law Kenny Koch and Daryl Leise.
