Honorary pallbearers are: Carol Mikkelson, Jon Rolfs, Shad Hochstein, Todd Hochstein, Helen Bruening, Leonard Hoss, Mary Edelman, Ramona Bagstad, Arlene Pietela, Marge Becker, Jim Wells, Annie Mullen, Mary Uhl, Rob Hoss and all of her friends and caregivers at Avera Sr. James Care Center. JoAnn Elizabeth Frick was born August 1, 1941 in LeMars, Iowa to Frank and Clara (Lewis) Hoss. JoAnn was one of ten children. She attended St. Joseph School and LeMars Gehlen Catholic High School and graduated from Ellis Beauty School in Sioux City, Iowa. While living in Sioux City, she was introduced by Carol Mikkelson to the love of her life, Mike Frick. JoAnn and Mike were married in 1965 and their marriage endured for 53 years. The real essence of JoAnn was her genuineness and love of being a mother and grandmother. She greatly impacted her children’s lives with her advice, encouragement and Catholic beliefs. JoAnn adored her two granddaughters, Annie and Ellie. They were the light of her life and both visited her often at Sr. James Care Center. Baking and cooking were her passions and she rarely turned down the chance to dance or play cards. Although she endured the ravages of Parkinson’s for 20 years, her illness did not define her. JoAnn never felt sorry for herself and took advantage of every moment she did feel good. Survivors include her husband, Michael Frick of Yankton; son, Rod Frick of Yankton; daughter, Michelle (Jon) Baumann of Yankton; two granddaughters: Annie and Ellie; two sisters: Helen Bruening of Bancroft, Nebraska and Carol Kessler of Omaha, Nebraska; three brothers: Leonard Hoss of South Sioux City, Nebraska; Darrel (Karen) Hoss of Sioux City, Iowa; Ken (Nita) Hoss of LeMars, Iowa; two brothers-in-law: Darrell Wells of Sioux City and Bob Cornelson of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law: Jeanne (Roger) Hochstein of Yankton and Loretta Hoss of LeMars, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara Hoss; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Ellen (McManus) Frick; two sisters: Donna Wells and Pat Cornelson; two brothers: Richard and Donald Hoss; two nephews: Dustin Hochstein and Mark Hoss; and one niece Rochelle Hochstein.
