Jo Ann Waters

Jo Ann Waters, age 67, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at her home. Memorial services for Jo Ann and her son, Jodi Gilbaugh, are 10:30 AM, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. Jo Ann will be buried with Jodi at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Friday, April 26, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Jo Ann was born November 10, 1951 in Yankton, South Dakota to Robert and Betty (Layne) Sherman. She attended grade school in Yankton and then high school in Vermillion, SD. In 1969, Jo Ann married Forrest Gilbaugh and together they had three sons: Bobbie, Jodi and Jon. They moved to Detroit, MI in 1972 and Jo Ann worked for Lionel Train Company and was also a waitress. She moved back to Yankton in 1978 and met Bob Waters a year later. While living in Yankton, Jo Ann worked at Gurney’s Seed and Nursery and the Lazy D Saloon. In 1986, Jo Ann and Bob moved to Costa Mesa, CA and were later married on July 1, 1989. Jo Ann worked for Marriott at John Wayne Airport for 28 years. She loved her time in food service and enjoyed visiting with her customers. Jo Ann and Bob retired in 2016 and moved back to Yankton. Jo Ann loved riding motorcycles with her husband and playing cards with friends and family. She was a great judge of character with a very outgoing personality and a smart, quick wit. She was very “determined” and was hard to talk her into or out of anything. Jo Ann deeply loved her husband, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Bob Waters of Yankton; two sons, Bobbie (Judy) Gilbaugh of Santa Ana, CA and Jon Gilbaugh of Reno, NV; two granddaughters, Ariel Gilbaugh of Jacksonville, FL and McKayla Gilbaugh of Yucca Valley, CA; five brothers and sisters: Mary Layne of Yankton, Brenda Sherman of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary Sherman also of Sioux Falls, Rodney (Sheila) Sherman of Yankton and Jeff (Sandy) Sherman of Mission Hill, SD; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
