Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at SS Philip & James Cemetery in St. James at a later date.. Visitation with his body present will be on Wednesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Lisa Pinkelman, Cheryl Eickhoff, Andrew Pinkelman, Carl Pinkelman, Juli Kelley, John Eickhoff, Lynette Pinkelman, & Derrick Kelley. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Jerome James was born on July 18, 1940 in Yankton, SD to Fritz Stephan and Rose Helen (Imoehl) Pinkelman. He grew up in St. James and attended school there. Jerome graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington. Jerome began farming with his dad and then continued to farm his entire life. His serenity was “being on the farm” raising livestock and grain. He was a hard worker and picked corn many years by hand. Jerome married Charlotte Ann Bonertz on May 29, 1971 in St. James, NE. He & Charlotte enjoyed bowling with their friends & spending time together in the pasture where they started the tradition of deer hunting with all of their family. Jerome loved playing & watching baseball & was known for being a great catcher. Horseshoes was a favorite pastime along with playing Euchre with his family. Jerome was known for being a very humble, patient, & kind-hearted person.
Jerome was a member of St. James Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot. He was a parish council member and also volunteered to mow the church, school, and cemetery grounds for many years.
Jerome is survived by his wife Charlotte of Wynot; five children Lisa Pinkelman of Crofton, Cheri (John) Eickhoff of Fordyce, Andy Pinkelman of Crofton, Carl (Lynette) Pinkelman of Wynot, Juli (Derrick) Kelley of Rumney, NH; nine grandchildren; four siblings Edward Pinkelman of Wynot, Frederick (Carol) Pinkelman of Wynot, Stanley (Violet) Pinkelman of Wynot, Celestine (Jim) Dvorak of Scotland, SD; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Rose; brother and wife Edmund (Lorraine) Pinkelman, a sister Rosemary Wuebben; brother-in-law Eugene Wuebben; sister-in-law Jeanette Pinkelman.
