Janet Arlene Huss was born on June 10, 1946 in Laurel, Nebraska to Axel and June (Ruge) Hansen. She grew up on the family farm east of Hartington. Janet attended District 47 Pleasant View Grade School and graduated from Hartington High School in 1964. After high school, she moved to Omaha and worked for Mutual of Omaha for several years before moving to Yankton, SD where she worked for a public accountant. Janet married Robert Huss on November 27, 1965 in Hartington, NE and to this union they were blessed with two children. They lived on a farm southwest of town and Janet worked at the Bank of Hartington. After working at the bank for several years, she worked in the Treasurer’s office at the Cedar County Courthouse until her retirement. Janet’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a selfless, loving, and caring women who always put family and others before herself. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw and word puzzles, baking, reading, and keeping her home neat and orderly. Janet also loved her popcorn, Smarties, and Butterfinger candy bars. Janet was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and June (Ruge) Hansen; and her father and mother in-law, Clarence and Viola (Rolfs) Huss. Janet has gone to be with those who went before her and will watch over those she left behind. A beloved woman is gone and we mourn her loss, but she would want us to celebrate her life.
