Jan Arndt Keifer, age 92 of Wynot, Nebraska died on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wynot Fire Hall, 207 St. James Avenue, in Wynot followed by a luncheon. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Wynot City cemetery next to her husband Carrol Arndt. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Genevieve Barbara “Jan” was born on October 15, 1932 in Poland to Peter and Caroline (Luckasz) Zerebecka. She grew up in Poland and immigrated to the United States. Her family lived in Sioux City, Iowa and that is where she met Carrol E. Arndt. They knew each other for a week and then got married on October 15, 1951. Jan and Carrol lived in Omaha after he was discharged from the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. They moved back to Sioux City prior to moving to Wynot. Jan worked for the Wynot School lunch program for many years. She and Carrol owned and operated Sportsman’s by Missouri River north of Wynot from 1975 to 1982. They moved into Wynot in 1989 when Carrol was experiencing health issues. Carrol died in 1991. Jan then married Al Keifer. Al ended up dying in 2012. Jan continued to live in Wynot for the rest of her life.
Jan loved playing cards, baking, gambling, gardening and being with family. She spent a lot of time with good friends Chuck and Renae Olson. Jan also belonged to the Wynot American Legion Auxiliary.
Genevieve is survived by her children Diane (Bill) Suing of Fordyce, Richard P. Arndt of South Sioux City, NE; step-children Neil Keifer, Aaron Keifer, and Janet Cull; three grandsons John Suing of Lincoln, Tim (Jen) Arndt of York, Mike (Amanda) Arndt of Omaha; six great grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carrol Arndt, her 2nd husband Al Keifer; son Robert Arndt; a granddaughter Amy Suing; three sisters Irene Konrad, Alicia Javer, and Donna Carpenter.
